The first of a series of meetings on the theme “How can trade unions help create a low-carbon Yorkshire & Humberside?” organised by Leeds TUC’s Environmental sub-committee. We look at the different “climate” technologies on the table and what drives the choice of pathways to a low carbon economy; the potential for decent sustainable unionised climate jobs; and the struggle for worker participation and democratic ownership and control of key sectors for the benefit of workers, communities and future generations. Session one looks at the different options for space heating/domestic heating, considering the uses, advantages and disadvantages of different technologies, how they can be implemented, what they mean for workers and residents, and how they fit into the overall picture.
